Sri Lanka Family Tour Itinerary

Day 1  – Arrive Colombo

Meet on arrival at Colombo International Airport and Transfer to Negombo. Rest of the day at leisure – Overnight stay at Hotel.

Day 2   – Negomobo

Breakfast at Hotel – Morning at leisure – 1330 Hrs Welcome cocktail and briefing at the Hotel – Proceed on a sightseeing tour of Negombo visiting the fishing village and the market – Return to Hotel – Welcome Dinner at the Hotel

Day 3   –   Pinawela/Dambulla

Breakfast at Hotel – 0700 Hrs leave for Dambulla en route visit the Elephant Orphanage in Pinnawela –  home to about 89 elephants, out of which some are baby elephants found abandoned or orphaned in the wild. They are being cared, fed and trained by the wild life authorities. The best time to visit is during the feeding times, when one will have the opportunity of seeing the baby elephants being bottle-fed. Also could accompany the elephants to a river close-by and see them having their daily bath.  Rest of the evening at leisure to explore the hotel vicinity – Dinner and overnight stay at Hotel.

Day 4 – Sigriya (Lions Rock) & Village Vist

Breakfast at Hotel  Leave for Sigiriya – Climb the 5th century Sigiriya rock fortress which is a world heritage site, built by King Kashyapa (477-495 AD). The ‘Lion Rock’ is a citadel of unusual beauty rising 200 meters from the scrub jungle. The rock was the innermost stronghold of the 70 hectare fortified town. Thereafter take a jeep ride though the village paths up to the lake then cross the lake by canoe – Take part in a cookery demonstration by the local women from the village – Also enjoy a locally prepared Lunch – Return to Hotel for Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 5  – Dambulla/Matale.Madulkelle 

Breakfast at Hotel – Leave for Madulkelle en route visit the Dambulla Rock Temple. Climb up to the temple, which was donated by king Walagambahu in the 1st century BC to Buddhist monks. Dambulla is a World Heritage site and is the most impressive of Sri Lanka’s cave temples. Next is a visit to the spice garden in Matale, you will be introduced to different spices and shown how some of these spices are grown and processed – Lunch at Spice Garden – Dinner and overnight stay at Hotel in Madulkelle

 Day 6 – Madulkelle

Breakfast at Hotel – 0930 Hrs Depart on a  tea tour in local 3 wheeler tuk tuks. Learn and experience the harvest, production and brewing of a fine cup of Ceylon tea. The experience begins at the hotel’s tea estate where you will learn the art of picking tea alongside tea pickers, then visit a working tea factory to see withering and packaging processes.  Return to Hotel for Lunch – After lunch relax for some time and get ready for trekking with bird watching experience.  Experience local hill country life, emeral land scapes dotted with Hindu Temples and tea community and trek through old Ceylon’s ancient tea valleys– Return to Hotel for Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 7 – Kandy

Breakfast at Hotel – Leave for Kandy – Proceed on a walking orientation tour of Kandy by walking – Visit the Peradeniya Botanical Gardens,  built as a pleasure garden by a Sinhala king. Rest of the afternoon at leisure – Evening visit the Buddhist Temple of the Tooth Relic and  witness a cultural show featuring traditional Sri Lankan dancing – Return to hotel for Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 8 – Elle/ Udawalawe  National Park

Breakfast at Hotel – Transfer to Kandy Railway Station to board Morning train for a scenic train journey though tea plantations and waterfalls up to Elle – On arrival at Elle railway station transfer to Udawalawe National Park, which has the highest concentration of wild elephants in South Asia.- Check in at Grand Udawalawe Safari Hotel– Dinner and overnight stay at Hotel.

Day 9 –  Udawalawe

Breakfast at hotel – 0600 Hrs proceed on a Jeep Safari to visit the Uda-Walawe National Park – Established in 1972 to protect the catchment area of the Uda Walawe reservoir, it is the most reliable place to see elephants in their wild habitat year round. Some 400-500 elephants live in the park and herds of up to 50 are commonly seen. As well as elephants, leopards live in the park, monkeys, spotted deer, wild pig and sambar – Return to Hotel- Dinner and overnight stay at Hotel.

Day 10  – Weligama/Galle

Breakfast at Hotel – Leave for Galle en route visit Stilt Fishing at Weligama. Proceed on a sightseeing tour of Galle Dutch fortress – Overnight stay at Hotel.

Day 11 – Bentota

Breakfast at Hotel – Leave for Bentota en route enjoy a scenic cruise along the Madhu River, pass dozens of mangrove forests. The cruise in a canopied, in an outboard motor powered boat; pausing to view a 200-year-old temple & to watch the locals cultivating cinnamon.  Overnight stay at Hotel.

Day 12 – Bentota

Breakfast at Hotel – Day at leisure on the beach – Overnight stay at Hotel.

Day 13 – Bentota

Breakfast at Hotel – Day at leisure on the beach – Overnight stay at Hotel. 

Day 14 – Colombo

Breakfast at Hotel – Morning at leisure – 1230 Hrs leave for Colombo – Proceed on sightseeing Tour of Colombo city, including the “Fort” and Oriental bazaar with a hotchpotch of humanity, ancient vehicles, mosques & temples. Visit a Hindu temple & drive pass Jumi-UL Alfar Jumma Mosque. Continue to the Wolvendaal Dutch Church,  and Cinnamon Gardens,  Independence Square – Overnight in hotel
